About Sestriere Resort

Not far from France there is a small Italian village Sestriere, which is the center of the “Milky Way”. Perfectly prepared pistes and a high level of service attract tourists from all over the world to the resort each year.

Sestriere is situated at an altitude of 2,035 meters between two mountain ranges. There is never a problem with snow, and the slopes are always well groomed and prepared. The season begins in late November and ends in April.

Slopes

The highest point of the resort region is 2,840 meters, the lowest is 1,840 meters, the altitude difference is 1,000 meters. There are over 400 kilometers of various routes in the adjacent area, half of which are for amateur skiers with intermediate level of skiing. The length of the largest track is 5 kilometers.

The skiing area is divided into several zones:

  • Monte Sises (2,600 m);
  • Monte Banqueta (2,557);
  • Monte Fraiteve (2,701).

Beginner skiers and children are better to learn on the lower part of the Sestriere. Here are special routes without steep slopes and turns.

Most of the routes are located on the northwest side of the ridge. For fans of snowboarding there is a special track and open snowpark. There are 13 kilometers of tracks for cross-country skiing in the vicinity of the town.

There are several ski schools in the area, where instructors will put you on the slopes after a couple of lessons. You may learn the process of skiing by yourself or in a group.

Ski passes

If you want to have a comfortable rest, you should buy a ski pass right on your arrival. The price depends on the number of skiing days and season. There are additional discounts for children.

Entertainment

In the center of Sestriere there is the Palazzetto dello Sport complex, where after sport activities tourists can swim in the pool, enjoy a sauna, play tennis or go rock-climbing.

Lovers of outdoor activities can take advantage of other equally interesting programs:

  • Ice skating on an outdoor ice rink;
  • Dog sledding;
  • Safari on snowmobiles.

Family vacations

In the town there is a kindergarten, where you can leave children from three years. Experienced tutors will work with children, take them for a walk in the fresh air and feed them with a delicious lunch. For older children there is an amusement park located on the slopes of the resort town. The area is equipped with a play area and exciting slides.

Where to Stay

In the resort town is developed accommodation in hotels 2 *, 3 * and 4 * in the former Olympic Village. In addition, very popular are apartments and mountain chalets, located near the funicular railway.

Shopping

Sestriere has numerous stores and boutiques with brand name clothing and sports equipment. Around lunchtime there are stalls selling handmade souvenirs and sweets in the main street.

Nutrition

There are over 20 eating places in the resort, including 9 restaurants on the slopes. In the city center you can visit family cozy cafes and bars, where the menu includes not only Italian cuisine, but also author’s dishes from the chefs. Gourmets will enjoy the tasting of fine wines.

On weekdays, life in the resort town is more relaxed. On weekends many bars offer exciting programs that will please fans of active nightlife.
